An institution with engineering resources can use CSS overrides to customize the look and feel of Kuali's Catalog.
However, in our experience working with institutions, heavy customization with the CSS often lead to long-term issues, given the volatility of CSS. As Kuali fixes bugs and develops new features, the CSS used for the catalog can be added to, modified, or deleted. As a result, institutions with overrides may find their catalog no longer looks as expected.
If you decide to use CSS and override the preset styles, we strongly suggest monitoring the display of the catalog with each software release. If any style conflicts should arise, you'll need to adjust the CSS to work within the new structure, which may involve your IT/engineering/web resources.
We don't recommend that institutions write overrides for the catalog CSS.
We encourage you to share your desired theming requests with customer support representatives so that those ideas can be considered for future development by Kuali.
