What is the Repeater Gadget?
The repeater gadget will allow admins to group fields together that need to be repeated together. While a table gadget can be used, it may not be the right format for certain use cases (textareas, rich text, recurring field sets with complex progressive disclosure). Admins can drag a repeater field onto the form and then other fields can be dragged into the repeater gadget. When a user is filling out the form they can fill out multiple instances of the repeater field by selecting "Add Another".
Examples of possible uses:
-
- Expenses on an expense report
- Financial Entities in COI Disclosures
- Activities in Negotiation
Things to keep in mind with the Repeater gadget:
-
- There will be a limit of 100 repeats for each repeater
- Repeaters can't be added in repeaters
- Repeaters will be treated the same as tables (reporting, workflow etc.)
Is it Similar to a Table?
Yes. The repeater gadget is similar to a table in that multiple fields can be added with multiple instances of those fields. However, this new gadget allows the admin control over the format of the fields.
How Do I Configure the Repeater Gadget?
- Drag a Repeater gadget onto the form:
- Name the field (for this example, it's named Expense Repeater).
- Drag other fields into the repeater (for this example, expense entry fields have been added).
- To the end user it will display like the below in the form - where it starts with 1 entry but users could use the 'Add Another' to add another Expense entry with all repeater fields:
Can the Repeater Be Used with Calculations?
Yes. Calculation footers can be configured for repeaters the same way they are configured for Tables. The UI is slightly different since repeater doesn't create columns to attach the calculation footers to. Each calculation footer will show the full label of the field it's calculated from, and the type of calculation being completed.
Is There a Limit to How Many Repeats Can Be Made on a Repeater?
Yes. Users can add up to 100 repeats of the repeater.
Can Sections Be Used in a Repeater
Yes. Sections can be used to break up the visual flow and provide a distinct visual starting point of each repetition. They can also be used to group progressive disclosure and facilitation more streamlined configuration of complex visibility logic.
Office Use Only functionality is NOT available in repeater though. Sections are only a layout and progressive disclosure tool when used in repeaters.
Can the Admin Further Limit How Many Repeats?
Yes. Admins can set up a maximum number of repeats.
- Click on the repeater gadget configuration
- Toggle on the Limit number of repeats setting
- Add in the maximum number of times you would like users to be able to repeat
Can the Repeater be Used in the Workflow?
Yes. The repeater can be used in the workflow using the Echo workflow step. The Echo step is configured the same way for Repeater as the Table gadget.
