After Creating a Form, you can choose from various Form Builder Gadgets to add fields to your form. Sections can serve as a few purposes: they act like containers for questions, help you organize your form, and create a more visually appealing form for your users. Sections can also be hidden from or exposed to a user based on how they respond to a question earlier in the form. Lastly, during the workflow process, you can hide sections from approvers or give them permissions to edit certain sections of the form. See how to make individual form Sections on a step hidden or View Only for more information.
- To add a section to your form, select Section from the list of gadgets and drag it into the middle panel.
- In the Configuration Panel, add a name to the section by typing it into the Gadget Label/Question field.
Make adjustments to the Section Settings as needed:
- Hide Gadget Label on Form
- Description/Help Text
- Office Use Only
- Limit visibility based on other gadgets
- Custom Page Name
Once you have added your section, select a gadget, and drag it to the desired location in the Middle Panel. Make sure your gadget is placed within a section!
- It is possible to have embedded sections, or sections placed within sections. When embedding sections, the form builder will visually adjust to allow you to more easily determine how sections are nested, which sections could be considered "parent/child sections," and which sections might be considered "sibling sections," or sections at the same level.
- Notice in the screenshot below, "Travel Request Information" is the top-level, or parent, section. "Destination" is a child section of "Travel Request Information." "Reason for Travel" and Department Reason for Travel" are child sections of "Destination," and they are also sibling sections of each other.
- Embedded sections will also be formatted for similarly for your form submitters. As you consider the design for your form and how you want sections to appear, you should also take into account how sections will appear for your end users. Use the Form Preview option above the Form Builder to see how the form will appear for your users.
