The Kuali Platform products have support for English, Spanish and French in the non-form building, end-user facing parts of the platform. This includes the following:
- Home and Space screens
- Document List
- Action List
- My Documents
- Notifications that send from the system
- Runtime read and edit form, including workflow history and export to PDF
- Groups
This includes support for multiple number formats, date formats, time formats, and multiple currencies reflecting the local language.
This feature was released Wednesday (June 25th, 2025).
How Does it Work?
- The vast majority of end-users will not notice a difference or need to change the language setting as they are US English speaking.
- Customers who have their browser language set to Spanish or French will automatically start seeing UX in Spanish or French.
- Customers who have their browser locale set to something different than English (United States) will start seeing numbers, dates and times displayed in the formats of their selected locale.
- A new menu option will appear on the Home Screen which will allow end-users to manually select a different language.
- The Currency gadget now has the Change currency setting to support multiple currencies: US dollars, Canadian dollars, Chilean peso, Euros and the British Pound.
Languages
- Supported languages: English, Spanish and French.
- Automatic detection: When a screen loads, we look at the language setting in the user's browser, if it's Spanish or French we automatically display Spanish or French, otherwise we display English.
- Override: The language setting can be overridden using the Language menu on the Home Screen under your user profile in the top righthand corner. The override is stored in browser local storage. It does not roam with the user to other devices. The override does not override the locale setting in the browser, only the language setting. There's no way to override the locale setting.
Numbers
Numbers are automatically displayed in the format defined by the locale selected in the browser.
Examples:
| English (United States) | 2,343.83 |
| English (Canada) | 2,343.83 |
| English (United Kingdom) | 2,343.83 |
| French (Canada) | 2 343,83 |
| Spanish (Chile) | 2.343,83 |
Dates
Dates are automatically displayed in the format and language defined by the locale selected in the browser.
Examples:
| English (United States) | December 25, 2025 |
| English (Canada) | December 25, 2025 |
| English (United Kingdom) | 25 December 2025 |
| French (Canada) | 25 décembre 2025 |
| Spanish (Chile) | 25 de diciembre de 2025 |
Times
Times are automatically displayed in the format defined by the locale selected in the browser.
Examples:
| English (United States) | 3:20 PM |
| English (Canada) | 3:30 p.m. |
| English (United Kingdom) | 15:20 |
| French (Canada) | 15 h 20 |
| Spanish (Chile) | 3:20 p. m. |
Currencies
The Currency gadget can now be configured via the Change currency setting to support multiple currencies: US dollars, Canadian dollars, Chilean peso, Euros and the British Pound
The currency is not automatically detected based on internationalization functionality in Kuali. It must be set in the gadget specifically. However, the display of the currency will automatically display based on the selected browser locale. The Number of decimals option allows you to limit the number of decimals the entry will allow.
Below outlines how currency will appear in the form based on the browser locale in the browser settings.
Example: USD - United Stated Dollar, 2 decimals
| English (United States) | $2,334.33 |
| English (Canada) | US$2,334.33 |
| English (United Kingdom) | US$2,334.33 |
| French (Canada) | 2 334,33 $ US |
| Spanish (Chile) | US$2.334,33 |
Example: CLP - Chilean Pesos, 0 decimals
| English (United States) | CLP 2,334 |
| English (Canada) | CLP 2,334 |
| English (United Kingdom) | CLP 2,334 |
| French (Canada) | 2 334 CLP |
| Spanish (Chile) | $2.334 |
What's Not Supported?
Below outlines what's currently not supported with internationalization:
- Multi-lingual forms - Ability to have multiple languages reflected in a form - we only support a single language currently. Customers who need a product or form to support multiple languages will have to enter the multiple languages in each label or description on the form manually. For example: Name/Nombre for the label on a name field.
- Multi-lingual content - Ability to have multi-lingual content captured in a form. For example, Catalog content can be entered in English and French and then automatically displayed correctly. There is currently no workaround for this.
-
Non-end-user facing screens - The following screens are not currently supported for internationalization and will be English-only:
- Admin screens
- Form builder
- Workflow builder
- People
- What's New Announcements and Support Portal - Announcements in What's New and Knowledge Base articles found in the Kuali Support Portal will still be English-only.
