The Kuali User Permissions area allows you to set permissions that give users access to the Kuali Users and Groups area. This is different from permissions that are set at the Kuali System Permissions and Kuali App Permissions levels; although, they do work hand in hand.
Configure Kuali User Permissions
- To configure Kuali User Permissions, click on the Suite Menu icon (
), then navigate to People & Groups.
Note: A user will need either the System Administrator role in Kuali or be an 'admin' in People to have access to the People & Groups link - otherwise, you will only see the Groups option.
- In the menu across the top, select People. This will take you to the User list where you can add or remove users, change their permissions, and manage other settings.
- Search for the user from the search bar at the top of the page.
- Click on a user to navigate to their Account Info page.
- Click Edit at the bottom of the screen to change the user's permission level.
- In the dropdown for Role, there are three different permissions available for you to choose from. Two permissions are relevant to your Kuali experience: User and Admin.
Note: Any additional roles listed in the dropdown were created for our other Kuali products and aren't used in Kuali, so they won't be covered in this guide
- User: This setting allows the user to view a list of other users in the system, update their own name and email address, and create their own API keys.
-
Admin: The Admin setting includes all options available to Users, as well as create/edit any user's information in the system (including their role), create/edit/delete Kuali groups, and create/edit/delete Blueprints, and impersonate users.
Note: If a user is a System Administrator role in Kuali they will also have the right to edit People and Groups like an 'Admin'; along with all other administrator/access in Kuali. However, if you only want to grant a user access to only edit People and Groups then you can assign them as the 'Admin' role. Also, an user with the role of 'Admin' in People will also get notified of any upcoming API key expirations across the application. More information in the Creating an API Key (Token) article.
- Service: The service role has been deprecated from the Kuali product and it is not recommended for use. If a user needs app and API privileges, the Admin role should be used.
- Click Save to keep any changes.
