Overview
User Impersonation allows end users with the user role of 'Admin' (in their user record) to see an 'Impersonate' option when viewing other user records via People. Once 'Impersonate' is selected in a user profile you are impersonating that user in the environment - which allows you to view and take action on any document that user has access to in Kuali.
Warning!!!
If impersonation is enabled it means all 'Admin' users will be able to impersonate anyone in the system and view or take actions on documents the user would have access to in all Kuali Platform products (Kuali Build, Kuali Academic Ops, Kuali Ready, and Kuali Research). Because of the obvious implications of allowing other users (Admins) to open documents and then take actions as that user you'll need to assess whether this would be appropriate for your institution. If you utilize multiple Kuali products you'll want to check with the appropriate staff that manage each Kuali product locally to confirm their approval of enabling impersonation.
Using User Impersonation
Once user impersonation is enabled any user with the role of 'Admin' (in their user record) will see an 'Impersonate' option when viewing other user records in People. Once 'Impersonate' is selected in a user profile you will be impersonating that user in the environment - which allows you to view and take action on documents that user has access to in Kuali.
Once the Admin user is done impersonating they can then use the Stop Impersonating option in the account profile menu on the top righthand corner:
Audit History When Impersonation Occurs
While impersonating as another user any action taken on a document will show in the audit history that it was done by another user via impersonation - see examples below.
