Kuali Product Accessibility
Kuali is devoted to providing applications which our whole community can use to automate their business processes and learning activities, regardless of circumstance or ability.
Products delivered from the Kuali Platform are accessible by design, without the need to enable a separate accessibility mode. All users enjoy the same experience.
We work with an independent party annually to assess and provide updated Accessibility Conformance Report of the Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (ACR/VPAT).
Kuali provides accessibility training opportunities for all engineers and designers and seeks to promote a vigorous culture of learning and continuous improvement with respect to accessibility within product teams. We believe the only way to produce truly accessible software is to ensure accessibility is considered and evaluated as early in the development process as possible by all participants. To that end, Kuali establishes design standards to be followed by product teams, and reviews accessibility of frontend-related code before it is merged into our codebase. We also leverage the following tools to help find the classes of issues that can be caught in an automated fashion such as low color-contrast, missing or inappropriate labels, and insufficient landmarking or semantic markup.
Kuali utilizes the following resources and tools to ensure clarity in interpreting accessibility guidelines.
- The A11Y Project
- MDN Accessibility Docs
- Web Accessibility Initiative
- WebAIM
- Section 508 Checklist
- WCAG 2.2 Recommendations
Kuali does its best to address reported critical accessibility issues as soon as possible. This means that we treat reported accessibility issues the same as other reported defects or bugs. We have a zero-bug practice where we constantly work to keep our unresolved bugs as close to zero as possible. As Kuali Products are robust applications, there will always be opportunities to improve on the current accessibility. Kuali explicitly works with external auditors to assess and provide feedback for improvements. Moreover, Kuali has various feedback mechanisms in place for the user community within our support portal to report findings.
Kuali Support Portal Accessibility
Our Kuali Support Portal is where users can find system documentation, community forums, and submit support requests. Our support portal utilizes Zendesk which has a commitment to accessibility - more information found here. Also, we’re committed to have useful alt text and closed captioning in our embedded images and videos to aid in accessibility.
